September is Happy Cat Month! Of course, kitties deserve to be happy all the time. It actually isn’t very hard to get Fluffy’s little motor going. A Columbia, MD vet lists some ways to keep your feline pal content below.
Cats may be small and cute, but they have the instincts of ferocious tigers. Let Fluffy indulge her inner huntress sometimes! Provide her with lots of toys to pounce on and push under the couch. Every kitty is a bit different, so experiment a bit, and see what your furry friend likes best.
Toys are great, but at the end of the day, Fluffy’s favorite source of entertainment is you. Play with your pet every day. This will help keep your furry pal in shape and provide her with mental stimulation. It will also help make her feel loved, which may be the most important thing.
We may never entirely sort out why our feline pals love boxes so much. This cute quirk isn’t just shared by housecats. Many larger felines, like lions and tigers, also can’t resist boxes; they just need bigger ones. Offer Fluffy a box to explore. You can also try giving her a paper bag.
Cats love to lounge about doing as little as possible. Make Fluffy her own little window seat. You get bonus purrs if it’s in a spot that provides your furry little voyeur a good view of birds and squirrels.
Want to brighten up Fluffy’s day? Give her some catnip! This can be just as entertaining for you as it is for her. Of course, not all of our feline friends are susceptible to catnip. If yours doesn’t seem very impressed by it, offer her some honeysuckle instead. Many of the furballs that don’t respond to catnip seem to really enjoy honeysuckle.
Fluffy won’t complain too much about having to borrow your furniture, but she will really appreciate having some things of her own. Make sure your kitty has lots of comfy beds, and at least one good scratching post.
Last but not least, the best way to make Fluffy feel loved is really to just pay attention to her. Talk to her, pet her, and let her snooze on your lap if she likes.
