Crafting? Here Are 5 Things You Can Make For Your Cat

July 1, 2020

One thing we’ve all recently learned: when you are stuck at home, pets make everything better. Our feline friends are great at entertaining us! Actually, you can also keep yourself and/or your children occupied by making crafts for kitties. A Columbia, MD vet lists some easy DIY things for Fluffy below.

Catnip Mice

It isn’t hard to make your feline buddy catnip mice. You can download printable patterns online. To be honest, they don’t even have to be shaped like mice. Fluffy won’t care! You can just sew a small, square catnip ‘pillow’ if you like. Sew the sides together, leaving a small opening. Put the catnip through the opening, and close it up. Done!

Beds

As far as cats are concerned, there’s just no such thing as too many beds. You can make an old sweater into a kitty bed. Fold the torso into an O-shape and sew it into place. Then, sew the sleeves to that. Use the neck as an opening to fill it with pet-safe stuffing, then close the neck up. Or, put a soft blanket or pillow into a wicker basket or hatbox.

Cat Tower

Does your feline pal have a cat tower to look smug on? If not, why not make one? A stepladder works great for this. Add planks to widen the steps out into kitty lounging spots. Then, cover the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope. Voila! If you’re feeling up to a bigger challenge, you can also make one out of lumber or PVC pipe, assuming you already have those materials.

Wand Toy

Kitties love playing with wand toys. Because you control the toy, your furball won’t be easily able to anticipate where her ‘prey’ is going. This makes things more fun and more challenging for her. You can use a green branch for this. Just tie some fabric scraps, feathers, and/or fuzzy pompoms onto it, using twine. Be sure to put wand toys away after use, so Fluffy doesn’t get tangled up.

Pet Tent

You can make a little tent for your furry friend out of a tee shirt and a wire hangar in just a few minutes. This is a great option for scaredy-cats!
