Holiday Gifts for Dogs

December 1, 2017
Believe it or not, the holidays are just around the corner! As you start making preparations, don’t forget to add your canine buddy’s name to your shopping list. Fido definitely deserves a special gift or two. (Or three.) Read on for some great doggy gift ideas from a Columbia, MD vet.

Bed

One of the best things you can get for your four-legged friend is a new bed. (Even if Fido already has a bed, there’s no reason he can’t have a second one.) Senior dogs and large breeds may appreciate the extra support of orthopedic doggy beds, while smaller dogs may like beanbag beds or beds with raised sides.

Toys

Toys aren’t just fun for Fido: they’re also very beneficial for him. Get your canine friend some new playthings, and spend time playing with him every day. This will benefit your furry companion both mentally and physically. It will be fun for you, too. After all, time spent with dogs is never wasted!

Treats

Nothing gets that furry tail going like a yummy treat! Store bought treats are fine, but you can also offer Fido some plain, cooked chicken, meat, or fish with the bones and skin removed; cheese; a little bit of bacon or sausage; or a few slices of pepperoni.

Spa Session

Is your canine pal in his golden years? Does Fido have a medical condition, such as arthritis? Treat your pet to a doggy massage or a warm-water swim. If your pooch has arthritis, he may also benefit from laser therapy. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Gift Basket

A doggy gift basket is a great choice for Fido. Fill it with toys, treats, and perhaps a new leash or collar. If you really want to go all out, order your furry friend a monthly gift box subscription. Your pup will get a special surprise each month!

Doghouse

Do you have a yard for your furry pal to run around in? If so, why not get Fido a doghouse? Ask your vet for tips on choosing a safe, suitable one.

Donations

Don’t forget about dogs in shelters and rescues! Donating money or goods can be a great way to spread holiday cheer, and will really help homeless pets. Happy Holidays! Please contact us if we can ever be of assistance. As your local Columbia, MD pet hospital, we are always happy to help!
