5 Things Cats Can Teach Us

March 1, 2016
Have you ever noticed your cat looking at you with a smug, all-knowing expression on her face? While Fluffy may not exactly be the picture of wisdom when she’s pouncing on a fuzzy slipper or rolling over for a belly rub, kitties actually do have some valuable things to teach us. In fact, these adorable furballs may very well be furry little sages! Read on as a Columbia, MD vet lists some great life lessons we can learn from our feline friends.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

If cats followed a list of golden rules, it’s safe to say that this would probably be one of the top ones. Your feline pal could spend as much as 20 hours a day napping. This is more than almost any other mammal on the planet! You may not need quite as much shuteye as your sleepy pet, but it is important to make sure you’re getting enough rest.

Explore Your World

Kitties are very curious and adventurous. Your furball will no doubt investigate every square inch of her kingdom, and will check out anything new you bring home. We recommend that cats live indoors, but the basic idea here still applies. Take time to explore new places, and try new things. You may discover that the neighborhood café you always drive past is amazing!

Show Your Love

Cats may have a reputation for being rather aloof, but that may not be entirely fair. Some of our feline friends are extremely cuddly and affectionate! There’s no mistaking a cat’s snuggles or kisses for anything but kitty love. (Some of Fluffy’s ways of showing her love, such as kneading and giving love-bites, may be a bit more vague, but that’s another topic.) Show your loved ones you care.

Think Big!

Kitties sometimes have some pretty high goals. Fluffy will never catch that elusive red dot, but she won’t stop trying. Set goals for yourself, and work towards them.

Be Yourself

This is another great life lesson from cats. While we often giggle at kitties’ hilarious antics, the truth is that kitties are purrfectly content just being themselves. Fluffy doesn’t care if she looks silly when she pounces on her toys. She’s just being feline! Do you have any questions or concerns about your kitty’s health or care? We can help!
