Things Fluffy Doesn’t Care About

November 1, 2024

Cats are very curious pets. Fluffy may be small, but she has a lot of cattitude! Our feline companions take certain things—particularly meals, catnip, sleep, and hunting—very seriously. There are also other things that they simply do not care about. This article includes a list of some of them from a local Elkridge, MD veterinarian.

Manners

Fluffy can be sweet and affectionate, which contributes to her ability to melt our hearts. She can also be rather temperamental, biting or scratching unexpectedly. She may also purposefully ignore you. How rude!

Your Plants

Many cats enjoy sniffing and nibbling on green leaves. Fluffy looks beautiful as she peeks out from behind bushes and pretends to be a dangerous tiger! To be honest, plants do provide enrichment for cats. Your cat will benefit from being able to smell and taste leaves. They also clean the air and make your home appear lovely and warm.

Fluffy isn’t bothered about the plants’ well-being. She has a habit of completely killing certain plants, such as Spider plants, and has been known to knock them over.

Just remember to put safety first. Only set out plants that are safe for your kitty companion. The ASPA has a fantastic list of them here.

Your Furniture

Cats are purrfect masters for making themselves comfortable. Fluffy will not hesitate to drape herself across the back of your sofa or sprawl out on your chair. She is also not hesitant about doing her nails on your couch or chair.

Don’t be irritated with your pet for these faux paws! Your pet is not attempting to ruin your belongings on purpose; she is simply compelled to keep her nails sharp. After all, cats rely on their claws to survive in the wild. Fluffy’s paw daggers are her primary means of protection. They also let her climb to cover and safety, catch her dinner, and write kitty graffiti on tree trunks.

Your Schedule

Have you ever been awakened up by a grumpy feline? Does your cat have a feline temper tantrum when you are late with her breakfast … or her second, third, or fourth breakfasts? Our furry overlords also sometimes wake up their humans in the middle of the night by pouncing on their toes.

If your pet gets rowdy while you are trying to sleep, try playing with her before bedtime. Fluffy will most likely feel worn out after a vigorous play session and will be in need of another nap.

Your Comfort

Speaking of snoozing, does your pet manage to take up the entire bed while you are relegated to a strip on the edge? We’re guessing the answer is yes for many of you.

Your Dog

Fido and Fluffy’s relationship has been difficult throughout the years, with many ups and downs. In some houses, they have grown pretty close. It’s always cute to witness a loving, calm dog let a kitten pounce on his tail or sleep on his back!  Of course, there are occasions when things get a little rocky. While the dog is usually the aggressor, the cat can also be the bully! Fluffy is also not afraid of taking dogs’ beds, batting their noses, or even striking them in the face.

Your Job

We don’t have a precise tally of how many of our feline patients have disrupted their owners’ zoom calls or walked on their laptops, but it’s safe to assume that the figure is not zero.

Their Columbia, MD Veterinarians

Many of our feline friends aren’t delighted to see us. We understand entirely. Many cats are more upset over the ride in to the Elkridge, MD pet clinic than they are at their appointments! We do everything we can to make things easier for our furry patients. However, our attempts to convince Fluffy that adequate veterinarian care will make her healthier—and, ultimately, happier—have failed.

The Laws of Physics

Kitties’ ability to hop, bend, and twist is one of the things that makes them so interesting. Fluffy’s acrobatics are incredible! We know that cats are exceptionally flexible because of their unusual skeletal structure. They have quite small clavicles, for starters. They also have more space between vertebrae than most animals, so their spines can move more freely. Furthermore, their shoulder blades are attached to muscle rather than bone. Even so, we do have to wonder if cats follow different laws than the rest of us!

Local Wildlife

Kitties are noted for their hunting skills. We first befriended them because of their ability to catch rodents and other varmin. However, it turns out that our feline buddies are adorable little serial killers. House cats destroy billions of small animals each year! Keep your furry little murderess inside and give her catnip birds to hunt, instead of real ones.
