Have you been considering or looking for a petsitter? Petsitters can be great, as they make it possible for our furry friends to stay safe, sound, and comfortable at home while their owners are away. When it comes to choosing a petsitter, your first priority is of course picking someone you trust with your pet. However, mishaps can happen even with the best petsitter around. You really just never know when an emergency will arise! That’s why it’s important for you and your petsitter to be ready for the unexpected. Contact Information

First and foremost, be sure that your petsitter has your correct and updated contact information. If you’re staying with friends or at a hotel, provide that information as well.

Itinerary

Going on a multi-stop trip or vacation? Leave a copy of your itinerary with the sitter. You may also want to note times that you think you may be available, so they can reach out with questions.

Backup Plans

Always have a Plan B. Make sure that your petsitter has contact information for somebody you trust to care for your pet if something happens. This of course should be somebody your furry buddy knows.

Pet Records

Your petsitter should have a file or folder with all your pet’s medical records. This should include their age, breed, diet (including any restrictions they have), and the contact information for you, your vet, and the nearest emergency clinic. (Tip: Keep in mind that you may need to have your sitter on record with your vet in order to authorize them to make any decisions.)

First-Aid Kit

If you don’t have a first-aid kit ready for your pet, we recommend getting one. You can start with one made for people, and then add some pet-safe items to it. Let your sitter know where this is. It’s a good idea to keep this near an emergency bag, so everything is in one spot if needed.

Paperwork

Leave your sitter a record of your pet’s usual agenda, including their schedules for walks, meals, and playtime. Be sure to include any pertinent information.
